Porsha Stewart has come under fire for her blonde moment in a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. On the episode, the ladies visited the First African Baptist Church, which is a part of Savannah’s Freedom Trail tour. During the tour, the tour guide talked about the ventilation holes in the floor which were used to hide slaves on the run. The church was part of a network of safe-houses called the Underground Railroad (as led by Harriet Tubman) during the pre-Civil War era. The tour guide said til this day, they still don’t know how groups of escaped slaves managed to get in and out from the crawl space. Then as if on cue, Ms. Stewart chimed in with this priceless gem, “Well, there has to be an opening for a railroad at some point, because somebody’s driving the train. It’s not electric like what we have now.”
No she didn’t. Yes she did. Porsha Stewart actually believed there as an actual train underground that led runaway slaves to their freedom. Harriet Tubman is doing somersaults in her grave. What makes this even more embarrassing is the fact that her grandfather is civil rights leader Hosea Williams. You figured coming from that pedigree, she would KNOW her Black History. But alas, not every branch on the family tree is strong. Mark Twain once said, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt”. This is another example of why the powers-that-be continue to not take the Black race in America as serious as they should. How can you when you have a grand-daughter of a civil rights leader not be remotely knowledgeable in an important piece of our Black History. She probably think MLK means milk.
