During the media frenzy following President Obama’s speech announcing the death of Osama Bin Laden some reporters had trouble getting the names just right.
One Washington D.C. Fox News anchor made an embarrassing on-air mistake. “President Obama speaking from the East Room of the White House…. telling the nation and the world that President Obama is, in fact dead.” Oh, how I love those guys at the Fox News channel. You can always count on them for responsible journalism.
We can all appreciate the fact that the President’s last name and the first name of our nation’s most wanted terrorist are quite similar. In the rush to report the news of Bin Laden’s death many reporters stumbled over those names causing some confusing headlines, sound bytes and tweets. Such as MSNBC ‘s Norah O’Donnell, who tweeted “Obama shot and killed” before quickly correcting her mistake.
Innocent mistake or Freudian slip?
Madmen, I’ll let you decide.
