Robert Watson (R) minority leader of the Rhode Island House is facing charges of possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence after being stopped at a police checkpoint on April 22.
Madmen, you may remember Mr. Watson after his now infamous speech to the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce in which he dismissed debate over the decriminalization of marijuana. Watson said that lawmakers had their priorities right “If you are a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana.”
Oh, how I love when the chickens come home to roost. The irony is so thick you can cut it with a knife.
A police report on Friday’s (April 22) traffic stop said Watson smelled of alcohol and marijuana, and performed poorly on sobriety tests. An officer found a bag of suspected marijuana and a wooden pipe in Watson’s pocket. Shame on you, my dear Watson.
Looks like you’ve been caught with your hand in the proverbial cookie jar.
Watson issued a statement in which he denied he was driving under the influence. He said he was in Connecticut to help a friend move and was driving home when he was stopped. “Trace evidence of marijuana was discovered and I was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, a charge I vehemently deny.”
Huh? a dime bag of marijuana and a wooden pipe found on your person do not add up to “trace evidence” but, I give him points for trying. I can’t even be mad because I’m still laughing at the “vehement denial”. I wonder, if the “friend” he was helping to move was named ‘Mary Jane’.
Watson, take two puffs and call me in the morning.
