Homeless Woman Jailed For Sending Son To CT School

What’s really good MadMen?! Yes family I am back and about to make my boss lady happy or fuel her rants. Either way this story here is yet another example of the over reaction to things that plain and simple, JUST AREN’T THAT SERIOUS!!!! Follow me.

Connecticut authorities have filed theft charges against Tanya McDowell, a HOMELESS woman, (yeah you read it correctly) alleging that she used a false address to enroll her son in a higher-income school district. If  convicted, McDowell may end up in jail for as many as 20 years and pay a $15,000 fine for the crime. Is any of this sounding familiar? It should! Remember the sister from Ohio, Kellie Williams- Bolar? She is the sister who was tried and convicted of THEFT for using her fathers address to enroll her child in a school that was not her own district becaus e she wanted her child to have a better education.

What is wrong with this picture?

McDowell is a homeless single mother from Bridgeport who used to work in food services, is now at the center of one of the very few false address cases in the Norwalk, CT, school district that is being handled in criminal court–rather than between the parent and school. Authorities are accusing McDowell of enrolling her 5-year-old son in nearby Norwalk schools by using the address of a friend. (Her friend has also been evicted from public housing for letting McDowell use her address)

WTF is that about? The Norwalk school board really finds it necessary to prosecute this woman based on her wanting an education for her child. McDowell says she stayed  in a Norwalk homeless shelter sometimes–but she didn’t register there, which would have made her son eligible to attend the school. “I had no idea whatsoever that if you enroll your child in another school district, it becomes a crime,”. An education advocacy group, Connecticut Parents Union, is holding a fundraiser to help McDowell pay the possible fine.

Tanya McDowell, homeless lived out of her van with her child

There were quite a few things about this story that had gotten under my skin. For one and the obvious, since when is wanting a better education for OUR children labeled as a crime which is punishable with jail time. What enrages me is how the judicial system entertains this and pushes forward to incarcerate an individual for this. Now you potentially cause a parent to lose their job and any chance to obtain another well paying job to support their family which will no doubt create another stressful issue.

The second is the idea of prosecuting a HOMELESS individual who wanted nothing more then educational stability for their child. The City of Norwalk, you need to be disgusted with your city officials for acting in such a heinous matter with treating an individual, who has already lost everything, and treating them as if they are a criminal. This is the ultimate price to pay for your child’s education. What kind of world do we live in?

I’m not just Mad, I’m f!@#%$ disgusted son!!! Mi dun!!
